Warhorse Studios, the developer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance and an upcoming Lord of the Rings RPG, has announced a cyberattack. Kotaku and IGN, quoting the company, report unauthorized access to its systems and data.

What Warhorse says

We could not read the full statement on the studio’s website. The details here come from the two outlets’ full reports and the statements they attribute to the company and its CEO.

According to those reports, Warhorse is working with cybersecurity specialists to secure its systems, investigate the incident and establish the extent of the damage. It is also coordinating its response with the relevant authorities.

CEO Martin Frývaldský described it as a serious incident for the company and those affected. He said the immediate goal is to protect employees, partners and the community, and that the studio will release more information when it can do so responsibly.

What we still don’t know

The quoted statement does not specify when the attack happened, what data was taken or whether player information was affected. Kotaku says it remains unclear whether any data was stolen. Accessing information and copying it out are different things, and the published details do not establish exactly what happened.

The quoted statements also do not establish an impact on game development or release dates. The attack announcement alone does not confirm that a game has been delayed or that player account information has been exposed.

We have to give them credit: a studio that delivered one of gaming’s most surprising success stories is willing to acknowledge a problem like this. To us, that shows 100% professionalism on their part.

Capcom also disclosed a breach affecting Capcom ID accounts in recent days. The reports we read do not connect the two incidents, so there is no basis to describe them as one attack.
