Stronghold 4 Early Access is now set for April 20, 2027
The launch has moved from December. Firefly plans to add an economic campaign to the castle-building game’s initial release.

Stronghold 4’s PC Early Access launch has moved from December 7, 2026 to April 20, 2027. Firefly Studios now plans to include an economic campaign that was not part of the original launch plan.
The real-time strategy game is set in medieval England. Alongside building a castle and preparing for sieges, players manage the settlement around it, providing food and collecting taxes. Firefly says the weather will affect those plans: snow will slow crop growth, while heavy rain will shorten archers’ range.
Set before the original Stronghold, the story follows Penryn, a shepherd who becomes a leader. According to the Steam store page, the story campaign is planned to have 22 missions.
The economic campaign is due to join the full story campaign, custom skirmishes, a skirmish trail and Free Build when Early Access begins. Firefly also plans to use the extra time for quality-of-life improvements and polish.
After the Early Access launch, the studio intends to continue developing the game toward version 1.0 with player feedback. A demo featuring skirmish and Free Build modes is available now.
