Horror game Mouthwashing is being adapted for film. Publisher Critical Reflex confirmed that Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems is producing the film and Karyn Kusama will direct.

The game follows five crew members stranded aboard a space freighter, with their story told out of sequence. It recently arrived on Xbox and Switch and joined Game Pass.

Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter report that Sony Pictures acquired the film rights from developer Wrong Organ and publisher Critical Reflex. Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay are adapting the game, while Scott Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill and Vince Cheng are producing through Crooked Highway.

Kusama directed The Invitation (2015) and Destroyer (2018), both written by Manfredi and Hay. Derrickson and Cargill co-wrote The Black Phone, which Derrickson also directed. The two founded production company Crooked Highway, where Cheng serves as president of production.
