Activision has apologized for using real footage from the Itaewon crowd crush in Seoul in the opening of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The publisher said the clip will be removed in an update scheduled for November 12, after victims’ families criticized its use and demanded its removal.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the clip shows a paramedic treating a victim of the 2022 disaster. The game used it to depict civilian casualties during a fictional war with North Korea.

In a notice sent to local reporters on October 30, Activision apologized to victims and their families. It said it had not intended to evoke the tragedy or disregard the pain it caused.
