id Software, the studio behind Doom, is working more closely with MachineGames after about half its staff left in the Xbox layoffs in July. Co-studio director Marty Stratton discussed the studio at a press event for the Doom: The Dark Ages – Revelations expansion.

According to IGN, Stratton said the studio made a deliberate effort to preserve its game and technology development capabilities after the layoffs. He said the technical collaboration with MachineGames had begun before the cuts and took shape over the year. MachineGames developed the recent Wolfenstein games and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

GamesBeat, which also attended the briefing, reported that Stratton said Doom’s Slaughter Mode was built in-house. He said id is working on another major project but did not give details. No joint game was announced at the briefing.
