Katsuhiro Harada on VS Studio: it began with ten people
In a new interview, the Tekken veteran explains his career change and how the SNK-backed studio works together.

Katsuhiro Harada, the former Tekken director, says VS Studio began with a core group of ten people. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz published November 4, he said that group reached out to people they knew and that those who wanted to join were all over 45 years old.
Harada left Bandai Namco after more than three decades. He said longer development cycles led him to think he might have time to make only one more game, prompting him to try a new path. The studio was established earlier this year with SNK backing; Harada said he had been promised autonomy over decisions.
He describes artists, engineers, directors and game designers sharing ideas beyond their individual roles. Alongside that freedom, he said, the small studio still has to build the marketing and sales capabilities that large publishers possess. Harada did not disclose details of the project the studio is working on.
