Dune: Awakening players will have to contend with cold instead of heat in Blood and Ice, a free expansion coming December 1 to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It adds the Polar Sink, a new survival map in the frozen north of Arrakis.

The region includes tundra and a guarded ice cap. Surviving there will require upgraded equipment and new resources; ice harvested from the cap can cool base equipment and speed up production. Funcom says the expansion adds around 35 hours of progression, as well as vehicle modules, augments and specialization traits.

The company also announced an optional cosmetics store, which it says will help support further free updates. Separately from the expansion, it is working on offline single-player, character copying and full cross-play.
