Dark Messiah's Community Edition heads to Steam with co-op and restored content

The free wiltOS Technologies mod targets 2026 with Linux, controller and Steam Workshop support. Playing it will require ownership of the original game.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic has a Community Edition on the way to Steam. The wiltOS Technologies project plans to let friends tackle the campaign together, restore cut content and bring material from different editions into one release.

What the team is building

The store page lists content from the PC game and Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Elements, including multiplayer maps and modes previously exclusive to consoles. Alongside campaign co-op, the plans include a survival mode called The Trials of Kha-Baleth and integrated New Game+.

An updated Source engine underpins the project, with 64-bit Windows and Linux support. Controller support, achievements and tools for creating and sharing content through Steam Workshop are also listed. For players hoping to revisit the game with friends, the proposed changes go beyond a visual refresh, though these remain features planned for an unreleased edition.

It is good to see a community finding more reasons to return to a game like this.

What you need to play

Steam classifies the release as a free community-made mod and explicitly requires ownership of the original Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. The free download therefore does not include a copy of the base game.

The current release window is 2026, without a specific day. For now, players can wishlist the mod on Steam to receive a notification when it becomes available.
