Call of Duty passes $40 billion in lifetime revenue, says Xbox CEO

Asha Sharma says the series has reached $40 billion in cumulative revenue. The figure covers the franchise's entire history and does not reveal Modern Warfare 4 sales.

Call of Duty has passed $40 billion in cumulative revenue, according to a statement by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma reported by PC Gamer and Inven Global.

What was announced

Both outlets say Sharma posted the figure on her X account on October 26, congratulating the Activision team and thanking players. We could not open the post directly, so we are relying on the full reports and the statements they quote from her.

The announcement came three days after Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23, a date confirmed by Xbox Wire. Our launch article covers editions and pricing.

What the number tells us, and what it does not

This is cumulative revenue across the series’ history, not net profit or the revenue of a single game. The quoted statement offers no breakdown by game or purchase type, and no separate revenue or unit-sales figure for Modern Warfare 4.

Although the announcement accompanied the new release, it cannot tell us how many copies the new game sold or how much it earned over its opening weekend. It describes the financial scale of the franchise as a whole.

Microsoft’s investor relations website lists October 28 as the date of the company’s next quarterly results. That does not promise a separate sales disclosure for the game.

This figure is a reminder of the power of a brand that keeps players coming back.
