Rumor: EA chose to fund a new Battlefront over Mass Effect
A Bloomberg report relayed by two gaming outlets alleges the choice preceded BioWare's closure and the cancellation of its next game.
EA chose to direct resources toward a new Star Wars Battlefront game instead of the next Mass Effect before closing BioWare and cancelling its project, according to a Bloomberg report relayed by Eurogamer and Game Developer.
The report says the company saw the Star Wars game as a less risky investment. That account of an internal decision has not been confirmed by EA. The new Battlefront game has not been announced, and no platforms or release date have been disclosed.
As we reported earlier, BioWare’s closure and the cancellation of the next Mass Effect had already been announced. In a statement quoted by Eurogamer, EA said the decision followed months of planning and shifting priorities, without confirming the particular choice described in the report.
