ARC Raiders executive producer Aleksander Grøndal has acknowledged that some criticism of the game’s use of text-to-speech was fair. He made the remarks in the studio’s documentary episode about sound and music, released on November 1, as reported by PC Gamer.

According to the report, audio director Bence Pajor explained that the game changed rapidly during development. New items and features needed many lines for the ping system, which lets players mark things for each other. He said it was impractical to bring actors in to record every version whenever a feature changed. Their voices were also used to make training data that let the team prototype with them, he said.

Chief creative officer Stefan Strandberg said the studio should give actors’ performances more space, PC Gamer reported. He expressed hope that ARC Raiders players would get to know the characters and their motivations better over the coming years.
