Free on Steam: Playable Archive, a short horror game from The Mortuary Assistant's developer
DarkStone Digital and publisher DreadXP released a free 30 to 60 minute psychological horror game for Halloween. There is no save system, so plan on one sitting.

Playable Archive came out on October 26 on Steam, and it costs nothing. It is a short psychological horror experience from DarkStone Digital, the studio of Brian Clarke, who made The Mortuary Assistant, published by DreadXP.
What it is
According to the Steam page, the game is an archive from an anonymous whistleblower, documenting a New England couple who find a mysterious object during home renovations. Along the way you perform demonic rituals, speak with the dead and experience multiple timelines. It runs 30 to 60 minutes.
There is no save system, so if you have to stop in the middle and come back, you will have to be scared all over again from the beginning. We recommend picking a quiet evening, and do not start it five minutes before guests arrive.
A little background
Clarke said, as quoted by Gematsu from a press release, that this is the demo built for a full game that will never be released. He wanted to honor what was built instead of leaving it on a shelf like a cursed item.
Perfect for Halloween: free, and in a single sitting.
It is PC only, and all you need to get it is to add it to your Steam library: open its page, add it to your library, download it and start. It needs Windows 10 or newer, a GTX 960 or better and 6 GB of RAM. At the time of writing Steam lists it as free, with no end date shown. Additional source: Gematsu’s report.
